Firstly for those of you who do not know. I was invited by Elizabeth Halladin UWA in december last year (2007) to give a seminar on TechNet to>the technical staff from the Universities in Perth. I accepted this invitation and presented the seminar. I then visited Technical staff/ Heads of Schools and the Dean of Natural and Agricultural Sciences. The visit was successful in being very well supported by all and in particular the VC of UWA . who gave his support for TechNet WA to go ahead. A meeting to form a steering committee to form TechNet WA in Perth is proposed to be held this month. Elizabeth and Gary Cass where great hosts to me while I was there. Their support was instumental in making my visit possible and I feel very successful. I have also been in contact with the CEO of "Universities Australia" with The express purpose of being linked with them as an
official university organisation. He will be contacting me after he has his next meeting this month.
The Name TechNet Australia appears at this stage to be ok, particularly if we become linked to
"Universities Australia", and the Terms of Reference have now been been approved. There are
now tasks that really need to be expedited, by the end of the year. I need some volunteers to take on
one of each of the following tasks.viz:
Logo: My draft needs approval
Constitution: For when we apply to VCs for support and funding, we will need this in our proposal for
organisation credibility. Letter to VCs TechNet Australia and a formal proposal for funding.
Other areas we need to think about are:
Formalising TechNetQld. and TechNetNSW in the first instance, joiningTechNetSA and TechNetWA,
purely to make TechNet Australia a ligitimate national body. Down the track we will need a minute secretary and a Finance administrator and a representative from each state to form an executive committee. As I did in W.Aust, I would be happy to come over to your state and present a seminar on TechNet, to assist in getting TechNet up and running, Please get back to me asap, as we need to get
things moving.
Many thanks.
Peter Kay, Chair, TechNet Australia
